Getting started
How do I get started?
Download togedapp, sign in with your Apple Account, and choose whether to create a new household or join an existing one with its invite code. Once you’re in, you can create your first list or add your first expense.
Getting started guideWhat do I need?
An iPhone or iPad with iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 and an Apple Account. To control devices and see your energy, you’ll also need a Home Assistant server. Tips written by Apple Intelligence need a compatible device.
Is there an Android or web version?
No. togedapp is a native app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
Household and members
How do I invite someone to my household?
On Home, tap your profile icon and copy the six-character invite code. The other person enters it after choosing “Join” once they’ve signed in. You’ll get a notification to approve the request and choose their permissions.
Step by stepCan I change what each member sees?
Yes, if you created the household. In your profile, tap a member’s name to choose whether they can see devices, energy, and automations, and which specific rooms and devices.
Home permissionsHow do I leave a household?
In your profile, tap “Leave Household.” If you created it and there are other members, management passes to whoever has been in it the longest. If you were the last one, the household is deleted.
What are family units?
Groups within the household that count as one when splitting expenses: for example, the grandparents on one side and a couple with their kids on the other. That way, you can split by unit instead of by person.
How to create themLists and alerts
What kinds of lists are there?
Family lists, which the whole household sees; Personal lists, just for you; and Shared lists, with the people you choose.
It doesn’t alert me when I get to the store. What should I do?
Check three things: that the list or its category has a place with “Notify Me When I Arrive” turned on; that togedapp can use your location “Always” (Settings → Apps → togedapp → Location), because with “While Using the App” it only checks when you open the app; and that notifications are allowed. The alert goes off about 150 meters from the place, and iOS monitors at most 20 places per app.
Alerts when you arriveHow do I find out what others add?
Open the list, tap ⋯ → Settings, and turn on “Notify Me of New Items.” It’s available in Family and Shared lists. Alerts are grouped: if someone adds several things in a row, you get just one.
Why do checked-off items disappear?
So the list doesn’t fill up with things that are already done, checked-off items are deleted after 24 hours. You can turn this off in each list’s settings and, whenever you like, clear everything you’ve checked off in one go with Delete Completed, in the list’s ⋯ menu. In a family or shared list, items are deleted for everyone.
I don’t see the Live Activity on my Lock Screen.
Make sure Live Activities are allowed in Settings → Apps → togedapp. The Live Activity appears when you arrive at a place with items still to get, and it closes on its own when there’s nothing left.
Expenses
Who sees my expenses?
Only the people involved in each expense. The rest of the household doesn’t see it.
What’s the difference between “To Split” and “Record Only”?
“To Split” counts toward balances: whoever paid gets back everyone else’s share. “Record Only” logs the expense without anyone owing anything, just to keep track.
How do we settle what’s owed?
In Expenses, tap the balance: you’ll see who owes whom and the suggested payments, with just a few payments to settle up. When someone pays, record it there and the balances update. You move the money yourselves: togedapp doesn’t make payments.
Connected home
Do I need Home Assistant to use togedapp?
No. Lists and expenses work without it. You only need Home Assistant for devices and energy.
What do I need to run Home Assistant?
A small computer that’s always on at home, like a Home Assistant Green or a Raspberry Pi, connected to your router. And to use your home while you’re out, a public address with Home Assistant Cloud or Cloudflare Tunnel.
What you needHow do I connect my Home Assistant?
The person who created the household does it: on Home, tap the profile icon and go to Smart Home → Home Assistant. You need your server’s public address and a long-lived access token, which you create in Home Assistant from your profile → Security. If you like, add the local address too: at home, the app will use it whenever it responds.
Home Assistant guideWhich devices can I control?
Lights (with brightness, color, and color temperature if the bulb supports them), plugs, fans, blinds, robot vacuums (start, pause, send them to the dock, choose the cleaning mode and, if you’ve assigned rooms to them in Home Assistant, clean only the ones you pick), buttons such as garage door or gate relays, and the alarm. You’ll also see the temperature and humidity in each room.
A member can’t see the Devices tab.
The person who created the household has to give them permission: in their profile, by tapping that member’s name and turning on Devices under “What They Can See.”
Who sees whatHow do NFC tags work?
Create a tag for a room, choose its devices, and write it to an NFC sticker from the app, or use its QR code. When you hold your iPhone near it, that room opens. If you allow guests, people who don’t have the app can use the devices you select for a few hours.
The tags guideEnergy
What do I need to see the Energy tab?
A Home Assistant with the Energy dashboard set up: solar panels, a battery, or a grid meter. If there’s no energy data, the tab doesn’t appear. Other members see it if the person who created the household allows it.
Energy guideHow do I enter my electricity tariff?
The person who created the household can add it in Energy by tapping ⋯ → Settings → Electricity Tariffs: a single price or prices by period (peak, mid-peak, and off-peak), contracted power, surplus sales, and taxes. Once a tariff is in effect, the “Costs” section appears.
Step by stepWhy don’t I see the Apple Intelligence tip?
You need a device that supports Apple Intelligence, with it turned on and available in the app’s language. If not, you’ll see the same tip as fixed text.
iPad, iPhone Duo, and kiosk
Does it work on iPhone Duo?
Yes, with iOS 27.1. When you unfold it, Home, Devices, Energy, and Expenses switch to two columns, and lists split into two panes; half-open, each column stays on one side of the hinge. Closed, the app adapts to the outer screen.
How do I turn on Kiosk Mode?
On your iPad, open your profile and tap “Kiosk Mode.” Then choose which devices appear on the panel. Kiosk Mode is only for iPad.
How do I exit Kiosk Mode?
By signing out from Kiosk Settings. That’s on purpose: this way, no one can leave the panel and see your lists or expenses.
Apple Watch
Is there an Apple Watch app?
Yes, starting with version 1.2. You need an Apple Watch with watchOS 27 paired with your iPhone. If it doesn’t install automatically, find it in the Watch app on your iPhone, under Available Apps, or in the App Store on your watch.
How do I connect my watch to my account?
Open togedapp on your watch and tap Connect with your iPhone nearby. Your watch uses the togedapp account on your iPhone, so you don’t have to sign in again. If it doesn’t connect, open togedapp on your iPhone and try again.
What can I do on my watch?
Swipe up or down to move through its four pages: Home, with your favorite devices; Energy, with the power right now and whether it’s a good time to use it; Expenses, with this month’s spending and your balance, view only; and Lists, to check off and add items. Home and Energy only appear if you can see them on your iPhone.
How do I choose which devices appear on my watch?
They’re your favorites, and each person has their own. On your iPhone, touch and hold a device and tap “Add to Favorites,” or open it and tap the star. Your watch shows up to six; for the rest, tap the Rooms button at the top left.
How do I open the garage from my watch?
Just like on iPhone, with two taps: the first gets the door ready (“Tap again to activate”) and the second activates it. If you don’t tap again within a few seconds, it’s canceled. For a light’s brightness or color, tap ⋯ on its card.
Which list opens on my watch?
If you’ve just arrived at a list’s place, that list, with “left here” at the top. Otherwise, the last one you chose on your watch or the one pinned to Home on your iPhone. To change it, tap the button at the top left. Your watch doesn’t use its own location: it relies on the arrival your iPhone detects.
Does it work away from my iPhone?
To connect it, your iPhone needs to be nearby. After that, your watch works on its own as long as it has internet, over Wi-Fi or cellular; for your home, just like on iPhone, Home Assistant needs its public address. Changes don’t arrive instantly: your watch catches up when you open it and every few seconds while you’re looking at it.
Account and privacy
Does signing out delete my data?
No. Signing out only disconnects you on that device. To delete your data, delete your account.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Yes. Email us at soporte@togedapp.com from your account’s email address and we’ll send it to you in a standard format.
Where is my data stored?
Your household’s data is stored on Google Firebase servers in the European Union. All the details are in the privacy policy.
