Download and sign in
togedapp works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 27 or iPadOS 27. Download it from the App Store and sign in using Sign in with Apple, so there are no new passwords to remember.
Create your household
Everything in togedapp happens inside a household: family lists, expenses, and the home. If you’re the one who keeps things organized, create it yourself:
- Choose “Create Household”
It’s the first thing the app asks after you sign in, on the “Your Household” screen.
- Give it a name
Whatever you call it at home: “The Garcias,” “The Country House”… The whole family will see it.
Invite your family
- Copy the invite code
In
Home, profile icon , under “Invite Code,” tap the copy button. It’s six letters and numbers. - Send it to whoever you like
That person downloads togedapp, signs in, chooses “Join,” and enters the code. Their request then shows “Waiting for Approval.”
- Approve it
You’ll get a notification, and “… wants to join” appears on Home. Tap it to choose “Approve” or “Decline,” their family unit (if you have them), and what they can see of the home (if you have Home Assistant). Nothing is saved until the last screen.
If you’ve been invited
- Download togedapp and sign in
With your Apple Account.
- Choose “Join” and enter the code
The person who created the household gives it to you: it’s six letters and numbers.
- Wait to be approved
You’ll see “Waiting for Approval.” As soon as you’re accepted, you’re in. If you entered the wrong code, tap “Cancel Request.”
Inside, you’ll see the family lists, the expenses you’re part of, and, if you’ve been given permission, the home’s devices and energy. If you’d rather take it slowly, there’s the Easy Guide, in large print.
Family units
They’re optional. They’re useful when several families share a home and its expenses: grandparents on one floor and a couple with their kids on another, for example. With units, electricity is split equally between families, not evenly among every person.
- Create them
The person who created the household does this, in
profile icon, Family Units, Create Family Unit : give each one the name the whole household will see (“Upstairs,” “Grandparents”) and choose who belongs to it. Each person can only be in one. - Decide how each type of expense is split
On the same screen, by category: split equally between units, per person, or only the unit of whoever adds it. That’s what will be selected when someone adds an expense, and it can always be changed.
Anyone who isn’t in a unit counts on their own, like a one-person unit.
Your first list
- Create the list
In the Lists tab, tap “+”. Give it a name and choose who it belongs to:
- FamilyThe whole household sees it. Perfect for groceries.
- PersonalJust for you.
- SharedWith the people you choose.
- Add what you need
Tap “New Item,” type, and press Return to move on to the next one. You can also add items from the list’s card on Home without switching tabs.
- Sort it into categories (if you want)
In
⋯, New Category : Farmers Market, Pharmacy, Hardware Store… To move something to another category, touch and hold it and choose “Move To.” - Check it off when you buy it
Tap the circle. It stays crossed out for a few seconds, in case you made a mistake, and then disappears. Checked items are deleted after 24 hours, unless you change that in
⋯, Settings . To clear them all in one go, use⋯, Delete Completed .
Alerts when you arrive
The best part of lists: getting an alert when you reach the store with what’s still needed. You can set it for the whole list or for each category (Corner Market for one, the pharmacy for another).
- Give it a place
In
⋯, Settings , turn on “Notify Me When I Arrive” and search for the store or mark it on the map. For a category, tap its name and turn on “Link a Place.” - Set location access to “Always”
And allow notifications. With “While Using the App,” togedapp only checks when you open the app. You can change it in
Settings, Apps, togedapp, Location . - Arrive
About 150 meters (500 feet) away, you get the alert, and a Live Activity with what’s left appears on the Lock Screen. It closes on its own once nothing is left.
Shared expenses
- Add an expense
In Expenses, tap “+”. Enter the amount, choose the category, and save: that’s all it takes. If you want, change the description, who paid, the date, and who it’s shared with.
- Choose “To Split” or “Record Only”
“To Split” counts toward balances: whoever paid gets back everyone else’s share. “Record Only” logs it without anyone owing anything.
- Settle up
Tap the balance card to see who owes whom and the suggested payments, with just a few transfers to settle up. When someone pays, record it there. And if the person who’s owed would rather make it their treat, you can do that too.
Notifications
In
- Expenses and Payments: when someone adds an expense with you or records a payment.
- Lists: the master switch for list alerts, above whatever each list is set to.
- Time Sensitive Notifications, under “When You Arrive Somewhere”: the store alert comes through even when a Focus is on.
Connect your home
Lists and expenses work without anything else. If you have Home Assistant, togedapp adds your home’s lights, plugs, blinds, robot vacuum, garage, and energy, with permissions for each person.
iPad, iPhone Duo, Apple Watch, and widgets
- iPad: the same app, with more room. And if you want a panel for the wall, there’s Kiosk Mode (in your profile, iPad only).
- iPhone Duo: when you unfold it, Home, Devices, Energy, and Expenses switch to two columns, and lists split into two panes.
- Apple Watch: open togedapp on your watch and tap Connect with your iPhone nearby. You’ll see your favorite devices (the ones you mark on iPhone by touching and holding them), your energy, this month’s expenses, and your lists. More about the watch.
- Widgets: “Room” to turn on the lights without opening the app, and “Doors” for the garage. To add them, touch and hold your Home Screen.
